Communication between district and voters lacking

To the editor: Your article last week titled “You voted for it, you paid for it — what happened ?“ failed to mention the ongoing investigation by two separate state agencies. However, what interested me even more was the explanation of cost overruns from Stephen Cea. At a budget presentation meeting in March of this year before the Marshall Hill PTA, Mr. Cea and Mr. Kamp our superintendent explained to us that because of cost overruns at Maple Road School the windows at Marshall Hill were not completed in order to close up the addition at Maple Road School not because of cost overruns at Marshall Hill School. With regards to the ongoing investigation by the New Jersey State Department of Education initiated by Governor Corzine at my request and The School Construction Corporation initiated by Senator Bob Martin at my request, we shall see if there was anything done illegally by the current school administration. If it is determined that there was nothing done illegally, it is my opinion that morally they are still guilty of not communicating with the taxpayers in town by notifying them of the alleged price increases. The school Web site says that the projects are completed and they are not, Is that communicating the truth? One characteristic of an effective school board is to communicate with one another and the public. When the administration and board cannot communicate with us, how are we as parents and taxpayers to trust them with a budget of over $60 million?
