“Ethics should not be a partisan issue”

To the editor: It would be easy to rebut the bogus claims made in a letter in your Feb. 16 issue that attacked me and called for the repeal of West Milford’s Attorney Accountability Ordinance. But I won’t do that because my father always told me it’s not fair to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. I also learned a long time ago that ethics should not be a partisan issue. These days in West Milford, though, Republicans oppose every move to make government more open and responsive to the township’s residents. That opposition mostly consists of distortions, outright lies and personal attacks and, now, an attempt to repeal an ordinance that has worked exceptionally well for township residents for three years. Shame on them. Martin O’Shea, Stockholm, NJ
