To the editor: Recently the West Milford Education Foundation held its fourth annual Taste of the Highlands dinner at the Lodge at Camp Ocawasin. As chairperson for the event, I would like to thank those responsible for making the evening delightful and helping to support the fundraising goals of our organization. Thanks goes to all who generously donated food for the event. Sincere appreciation goes out to Arta, Bella Sera, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Cable Car Deli, Country Roads Deli, Coyote Cove, Crosswinds Café, Dunkin’ Donuts, Frank’s Pizza and Family Restaurant, The Huntsman, La Rocca, Le Bistro II, The Lodge at Ocawasin, Macopin Pizza, Momento , Portofino Family Restaurant, SandS Deli, Sonny’s on the Lake, South Shore Grill, T J’s Place, Town Tavern, Valley View Pub, Vesuvio Pizzeria, Village Square Inn, Vito and Joey’s and the West Milford Diner. These establishments supported us, I hope you will support them. New this year was a selection of delicious desserts created by the Culinary 2 students at the high school. Thank you to teacher Rona Weissman for making this possible. We were able to raise additional funds by including a Silent Auction’. The handmade items auctioned were donated by West Milford High School students. We auctioned original artwork created by the visual arts students and several beautiful wood items produced by students in the Industrial Education and Technology Department. The donations were coordinated by Katha Griswold, Supervisor/Coordinator of Occupational Education K-12. We are extremely grateful to her for making the works of art available to us. Thanks to the student volunteers who helped us during the evening. They were instrumental in making sure everyone was served. Mac, the chef at Ocawasin, helped us immensely, ensuring the kitchen ran smoothly. Mark Fredericks, Carolyn Ott, Robert Masessa, Karen Brady, Marilyn Shultz, Lenore McGuire and James Gilligan, fellow members of the West Milford Education Foundation, along with Glenn Kamp, Robert Florian, Pat Maglio and Dan Sullivan, all contributed their time and talents to make the evening a success. Finally, thank you to the patrons who purchased tickets, the organizations that purchased ads in our journal, and those who sent in donations. For those who may not know us, the Education Foundation provides grants for new and existing programs above and beyond what is offered through the school budget. We provide what I like to call the ’bells and whistles’ that make the educational experience more than just reading and writing. If you were unable to attend but would like to contribute to the foundation, donations may be mailed to the West Milford Education Foundation, PO Box 153, West Milford, NJ 07480. Donations are tax deductible. In 2006, the foundation awarded over $8500 in teacher requested grant monies. With your support we will be able to fund more grant requests in the coming year. Thank you to all. Debbie Grimmelmann, Chairperson Taste of the Highlands
