To the Editor: In your edition of April 28 you devoted approximately 20 column inches to an opinion piece which carried the headline “Senate bill flawed.” As one of the people who played a leading role in drafting Senate bill S1219, I’d like you to know that I sincerely appreciate you devoting so much space to the subject. Having said that, I don’t want you to get nervous. I’m not looking for equal space. Indeed, I have no intention of submitting anything approaching 20 inches that would point out the many flaws and fallacies that appeared in what was a piece written by an elected (albeit without opposition) member of West Milford’s board of education with axes to grind. Rather, I would like you and your readers especially to know that our website at www.njsunshinelaw.com includes facts that will help them to make up their own minds about S1219, which is intended as a long overdue reform of the state’s Open Public Meetings Act and which includes some relatively minor changes to the Open Public Records Act. Also, while perusing www.njsunshinelaw.com, your readers will find countless column inches of well-written, well-reasoned, logical editorials from newspapers around the state that support the need to make government more accessible to the citizens who pay for it. If that’s not enough, anyone interested can contact me by telephone. My number is in the book. Martin O’Shea West Milford
