Repealing the distance requirement for liquor licenses is on the table. My family and I do not think the distance requirement should be changed. Local laws state that liquor licenses cannot be transferred if the location is within 2,500 feet from another license.
This town does not need another establishment serving alcohol. I understand the town currently has 30 liquor licenses. This is way over the limit according to state law. The established businesses are already having difficulty staying in business. We are concerned about patrons drinking and driving cars and boats. Everyone knows drinking and driving causes accidents and deaths.
I am a property owner on Cottage Cove Road. My family has had to endure so many hardships from the previous bar business. Our safety was in jeopardy due to the drunk, lewd behavior as the patrons would pass our properties. As families, I know you can share and understand our concerns. Please support us by letting the mayor and the town council members know that you are not in favor of changing this law.
I am having a difficult time understanding why the mayor and the members of the town council are trying so hard to assist one business owner, Elena Dykstra, and disregarding all of the other already established businesses as well as all of the residents that this ordinance change will hurt. Aren't these elected officials supposed to represent all the people not just one person? Aren't these local state laws supposed to keep all of us safe? So why is the mayor and members of the town council willing to rescind the ordinance?
