I attended the MUA rate increase public hearing on March 21. The newly appointed commissioners were much more welcoming to the public than the crew that just resigned. There were at least 25 people in attendance and during the one hour that I was there, no one spoke in favor of a rate increase.
The new commissioners explained that the proposed budget, including the rate increase, had been prepared by the former crew and that they had little time to study and understand what is in the proposed budget.
I looked at the MUA Website today and discovered that the commissioners passed a rate increase. My questions to the new commissioners are:
If you did not know what was in the numbers (as you all admitted you did not), then why the rush to rubber stamp a rate increase?
What would be the harm in taking the necessary time to review the proposed budget and find out what all your options are?
