I’m Dave Ofshinsky and I would like to take this opportunity to re-introduce myself. Now that the primary is over and the township’s Republicans have elected their council candidates, West Milford’s voters should know that they have a real choice in November, Jim Foody and I, the Democratic council candidates.
For me, public service is a way of life. After high school, I enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam era, and then went to college on the GI Bill. I have spent over 25 years as a senior finance executive at large non-profit health and human service organizations, managing budgets similar in size to the township’s. In my ‘spare’ time, I was a founding board member of a battered women’s shelter, and served on its board for over 20 years. Currently, I am a commissioner on the MUA Board, serving as its treasurer.
One thing I am not is a politician. In my nearly 40 years as a voter, I have been unaffiliated with any party. When I ran for council last year, I joined the Democratic party because they allow me to think independently, focus on issues, and apply my problem-solving skills unfettered by political influences. To me, serving on the council is about public service, not politics.
