Politicians acting “above state laws”

To the editor: The story “Tangled legal representation causes heated council debate” in your June 30 edition was on the money. In my opinion, though, there is one area in which it fell a smidgen short. According to the story, “Some of the people who spoke at the meeting blamed O’Shea for instigating unnecessary legal action and creating a bad image of the township to prospective legal representatives.” While that is accurate reporting, I contend that — along with West Milford council members Robert Nolan, James Warden and some others — I was one of the few people who spoke during the meeting who was acting responsibly. The bottom line of what you call a “heated council debate” is that once again the majority of West Milford’s council and some of the township’s appointed officials are behaving as if they are above state laws put in place to protect the public from two-bit politicians.
