To the editor: For the past four years, the West Milford Beautification and Recycling Committee has been recognizing residents of West Milford who do a nice job of maintaining their house and property. The idea is two-fold. One, to thank people that take time out of their schedule to improve their property and ultimately make West Milford a more pleasing place to visit or drive through. The other is the hope that other residents will see that the appearance of their property not only reflects on them, but also the township. During the months of July and August, we request that residents call into the recycling center 973-728-2724 and either nominate their property or someone else’s. We are looking for properties that are maintained or enhanced by the home owner, not a professional landscaper. A house that would make someone stop and look twice because of its curb appeal is good candidate for a winner. This year, residents have until September 8 to call in their nominations. Our committee will then visit the sites and select three properties as the winners. During one of the scheduled council meetings in October, we will present the winners with their award. In the past, the residents that won really appreciated that someone would do this for them. One winner that recently moved to West Milford from Wayne said, “Wayne never does anything like this.” Jeff Simmers, Chairperson Beautification and Recycling Committee
