Thanks for helping with unicorn

To the editor: This is just a note of thanks to the many people involved in pulling off our Harry Potter Summer Orientation Class and to James Novack and JoAnn Baker for persevering through the end of the girl scout party. They were giving indisputable proof of the existence of magic in West Milford. It is hard to hold onto one of these unicorn creatures for long. The magic and beauty available right here under our noses is real, if folks would only allow themselves the imagination to see the potential in West Milford. Thank you for believing in this event enough to attend. Thanks to each of my fellow “professors” for their part in making this event so special. This Harry Potter themed event was planned by Laura Fuhrmann, who made the sorting hat and Hogwart’s arch, executed by myself as Mistress of Ceremonies and enhanced by Ada Erik (care of magical creatures) and Lisa Palomba (potions) who came together at a site run by Parks and Recreation and pulled off a spectacular event. I also owe a debt of gratitude and a huge thank you to the staff of Hillcrest Community Center personally for attending to so many details including: special unicorn parking arrangements, moving furniture, storing arches, and finding extension cords. Bonnie Earl, my appreciation of your help goes beyond words. The parents of Brownie Troop 807 were fantastic as well. These girls were given a memory they will never forget, and I thank you all for your part in the success of this and in the amount of clean-up you did afterwards. My gratitude to Skylands CLEAN for providing their “magical” great horned owl and summer reading literature, and also to the talented Nancy Simmons of Cafe, Cafe in Butler who provided “divination” class. She does readings there on Saturday nights, but volunteered her services for the children of this town. You folks are each heroes to me. Thank you for all you do to make our children’s world special.
