To the editor: Your paper is turning into an embarrassment of riches and again I find myself in the position of thanking you for giving so much space to proposed legislation I helped draft that is pending in the state legislature. As you and your readers already know, Senate Bill S1219 is intended to reform the state’s Open Public Meetings Act, which needs to be dragged kicking and screaming if necessary into the 21st Century. As my colleagues and I expected from the very beginning the proposed law is being opposed by some elected officials and their lobbyists who are highly paid ... with taxpayer money. Included in the opposition is one member of the West Milford board of education who stoops to making disingenuous comments in your newspaper about a law that would lead to more transparency in government so that he can ingratiate himself with his colleagues on the board. People interested in making up their own minds about the proposed legislation should go to www.njsunshinelaw.com where they will find information that is quite clear to most people, with the notable exception of one whining local graduate of the Harvard Business School.
