To the editor: Thanks to Freeholder Terry Duffy for representing the concerns of West Milford in Passaic County. For years West Milford Presbyterian Church has been trying to get the county to fix the crumbling wall that they installed in front of the church in 1928. The wall was built when the county widened Union Valley Road. It protects the cemetery that contains graves from the 1800’s, including one Revolutionary War Veteran and several Civil War soldiers. Over the years the original wall has eroded. Several traffic accidents have damaged the wall, including one that knocked down a column where there had once been stairs up from Union Valley Road. The weeds had grown so tall in front of the wall, that it was hard to see the wall even existed. It was not until Freeholder Duffy got involved that we began to see any action. This month the county has built a new wall in front of the old wall. The new wall helps to add to the overall beautification of our community. In 2007 the church will be celebrating 200 years of ministry in West Milford, making it one of the oldest churches in the community. Janet Macgregor-Williams Pastor, West Milford Presbyterian Church
