Thinks little of challenge

To the Editor: It seems that I may have been challenged to a debate in a letter you printed on May 5 under the headline of “In Defense of Martin Murphy.” Although the letter was a confusing jumble of sentimentality and damning of the ex-township counsel with faint praise, it appears that the writer would like to debate me if I don’t embrace his views about the Wallisch property. If I am correct that would be the third time the writer has challenged me to a debate. The first two challenges were issued in snail mail letters. I responded in a short note, telling the challenger that he mistook me for someone who cares about his opinion. In the interest of accuracy, I used somewhat more colorful language than that but the meaning was the same. The writer’s third challenge reminds me why I follow the old maxim, “Never get into a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.” Martin O’Shea West Milford
