To the editor: Why elect Councilman Joseph Smolinski and Dr. Sal Schimmenti? These two dedicated individuals have made positive contributions to the quality of life in West Milford. Both have demonstrated pride, leadership, concern, and hard work. They have not hesitated to jump in whenever necessary without seeking praise or recognition. Both of these men are devoted dads and husbands involved in numerous activities. Councilman Joe Smolinski and his wife Bunny, a West Milford school bus driver, have lived here for 20 years. Joe has been a self-employed businessman for 30 years. They are active parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church. Their daughter Jenny is a West Milford graduate and currently serves in the US Naval Reserve. Their son, Joseph, is a West Milford High School student, a Pipe Sergeant, and class officer. Joe is a 15-year member of the First Aid Squad. He is credited for starting the fund drive providing defibrillators to West Milford Public Schools at no cost to taxpayers. He is a former softball coach, an honorary PBA member of local 261, and a certified EMT for the state of NJ. He volunteered his time to care for the 9/11 ground zero rescue workers. He has worked alongside township fire officials to establish a pension plan for fire and medical volunteers of West Milford. Dr. Sal Schimmenti, his wife Sandra and their three sons, Joseph, Salvatore, and Alexander are parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace. The boys attend Macopin Middle School and Westbrook School and are involved in various sports and activities, Dr. Sal is a chiropractor in town, and resident of West Milford for 16 years. His wife, Sandra, works for the State Department of Taxation. He has been involved in local scouting and has been actively involved in various sports and activities for children as well as seniors. He is a member of the West Milford Health Department Advisory Board, MUA, and CASA. Both Councilman Smolinski and Dr. Schimmenti want to make West Milford affordable for retirement. Both are dedicated to the children and senior residents. Both have worked toward the rejuvenation of the Jungle Habitat property. They are proponents for the purchase and building of parks and recreational fields and want to make township facilities safer. They have been involved in the Creative Playground in both a hands-on capacity and in fund raising. I’m proud to have worked closely with these two individuals. They want to do what is right for the community. They bring dignity, honesty, intelligence, and respect to the community. Let’s continue to create a community we are proud to call home. A vote for Smolinski and Schimmenti is a vote for a better West Milford. Carmen Scangarello West Milford
