West Milford Fire Dept. unveils new Tanker 4
West Milford. Company 4 of the West Milford Fire Dept. celebrated the delivery of a new 2,500-gallon E-One tanker truck, designed to strengthen fire suppression capabilities in the township.
Company 4 of the West Milford Fire Department took delivery of a new tanker truck during a ceremony with volunteer members and families, local officials and supporters at the Macopin Firehouse on Thursday, March 26.
The new Tanker 4, which serves as an initial fire attack truck, is a E-One 2500-gallon Typhoon 6-man cab tanker with a stainless-steel body equipped with a 1500 gallon per minute pump.
The prior tanker was unexpectedly placed out of service in 2021, and Company 4 formed a truck committee to begin designing a new tanker to replace it. in July 2023, the township approved the purchase of Tanker 4 from Absolute Fire Protection based in South Plainfield, N.J.
“Our truck committee began to meet and compose plans and a design for the truck that would serve the Township of West Milford effectively and efficiently,” said Company 4 Chief Rich Poplaski Jr.
Due to supply chain issues, Tanker 4 was delayed twice during the production process.
In February, members of the truck committee and West Milford Fire Commissioner Glen Dowson traveled to E-One’s production facility for the final inspection. To its satisfaction, the committee spent two days inspecting every detail and operational features of the truck.
“Tankers are a crucial part of our fire suppression operation in West Milford and the surrounding areas,” Poplaski said. “Tankers can shuttle large amounts of water in a short period of time for a fire operation.”
Company 4 members will undergo driver training, pump training and become familiar with the truck’s operational features. Training will also include E-One-provided training at the firehouse.
Tanker 4 will be placed in service in April.
The WMFD has six Tankers that are primary water supply during fire operations due to scarce supply of adequate fire hydrants.
“I would like to commend the truck committee in their hard work, dedication, long hours and multiple meetings to ensure that we can serve the residents with Tanker 4 efficiently,” Poplaski said. “It took a lot of time and some hardships. In the end the final product is nothing short of an incredible apparatus piece.
“Thank you to the town and the taxpayers for your support that enables projects like this become a reality. We thank you all for that.”
