Members of West Milford Elks Lodge 2236, VFW Post 7198 and Boy Scout Troop 224 joined together June 14 to conduct a Flag Day ceremony and retire several worn American flags.
The event was held on Flag Day and included a ceremony honoring the American flag and its significance as a symbol of the nation.
Following the observance, participants conducted an official flag retirement ceremony. In keeping with established flag etiquette, the unserviceable flags were properly folded, respectfully burned and saluted by those in attendance.
Organizers said the annual tradition serves as a reminder of the importance of honoring the American flag and the values it represents.
